Volunteer gardener

The Friends of the Porter's Garden invite you to become a volunteer gardener at the Porter's Garden in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The garden

The Garden has been recreated on the site formerly occupied by the Dockyard Porter's garden. We took over the planting and gardening early in 2001 and have been maintaining and filling the new flower beds with period flowers ever since. Our main objective is to recreate the Porter's garden with reference to its historical, educational and recreational value.

Many hands make light work and it is very satisfying and enjoyable to see the results. There are a variety of tasks, from digging to weeding to transplanting young plants. We have hose-pipes and sprinklers laid around the garden to make watering easier, so please contact me on 023 9286 3799 if you have any spare time and can help in any way.
